Halifax Yorkshire
A large-scale pottery slipware whistle formed as a bird perched on a horizontal branch mounted on a conical base in the form of a tree trunk. Four small birds are perched on the branches.
Item Date: Circa 1800-1820
Measurement: Height: 10.25"; width: 6.5"; depth: 8"
Material: Red clay, cream colored base slip, brown manganese glaze.
Item Condition: One has a very old bit of restoration parallel to the horizontal branch and a glaze flake to tip of beak, else fine. The other bird displays a couple of small and trivial glaze flakes to edge of base - on the back, otherwise fine. Both pieces display beautifully.
