The artist was/is known for figure in landscape painting-Hudson River style, and teaching.
Max Eglau was born in 1825; he was a highly respected Hudson-River School painter and teacher in New York City including grammar schools and Cooper Union. He was murdered in his classroom at the School for Deaf Mutes in New York City in February 1896. The murder was never solved.
