A diminutive example displaying original soulful surface; constructed in two pieces…the cornice rests on the case which is raised on platform feet.
Connecticut kasten share characteristics with mid Long Island examples including platform feet…Please note that there is no center stile, which is a Greenwich, Connecticut shop tradition.
Eight similar kasten are known; four with Connecticut histories including Greenwich, New Haven, and Litchfield. Paneling and setting of hinges are stylistically closely related to other published examples. See pp. 64 & 65 of American Kasten, Metropolitan Museum of Art (1991) Peter Kenny, Frances Gruber Safford, and Gilbert Vincent.
