Reference: See "American Weathervanes / The Art of the Winds" by Robert Shaw, the author discusses the Jewell company on pages 128 – 141; pp 140 - 141 shows both sides of a circa 1867 A. L. Jewell trade card…Mr. Shaw notes “Jewell was the first weathervane manufacturer known to have published photographs of his vanes. This tiny trade card clearly shows what some of his best-selling forms actually looked like.” Clearly depicted is this identical form with the only minor difference being a corrugated tail, however – the profile of tail is identical.
