There are three of these types of jars featured in this collection, which may have been made in the Hudson River region during the late 18th century. An inscribed number “2” is found on this jar which is related to traditions found on German stoneware. This American-made jar was likely influenced by German potters. This jar may also be related to a stoneware jar owned by the Huntington Museum in California that was made in either New Jersey or New York about 1750.
