English, likely Lambeth
Extremely rare blue and white puzzle jug, featuring Chinoiserie decoration, probably made in Lambeth. Few 17th century examples survive, most extant puzzle jugs date to the 18th century. The 17th century examples are of a different form when compared to the 18th century baluster shape puzzle jugs.
A similar Lambeth jug dated 1689 was donated by Mrs. Russell S. Carter in 1945 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (Accession Number: 45.12.10)
Bonhams, London, Knightsbridge (June 23, 2001) A very rare and unrecorded London delftware puzzle jug, Pickleherring Quay Pottery, Southwark, circa 1650 sold for £19,000.
