A Very Rare Wide Bodied Magnum Cylinder Bottle for the American Market
Wide-bodied magnum cylinder, transparent bubbly olive-green glass with tapering neck and string rim, rounded sloping shoulders; deep basil “kick-up” with sand pontil scar. Slightly wonky neck which emphasizes the individual making of this bottle adding to the appeal of this wonderful bottle.

Provenance: Charles Ludlow was listed in the New York City Directory of 1766 as a lawyer working at 184 Water Street. Other examples of Ludlow family seals are in the Corning and Winterthur Museum collections.
Literature: Antique Sealed Bottles 1640-1900 And The Families Who Owned Them, David Burton, Vol. III, page 1189. Burton records three bottles of this seal, including this one however we believe there are at least five extant.
