The final design of a US military flintlock pistol, made 1836 to 1844

US Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol, Dated 1842, A FINE EXAMPLE. Robert Johnson, Middletown, Connecticut

The pistol has a brass front sight blade, dished rear sight, swivel ramrod with button head and iron mountings; brass pan. The lock is marked “U.S. / R. JOHNSON / MIDDN CONN / 1836”. Upper barrel at breech is marked “U.S.” over “JCB” [Joseph Cooper Brag, civilian employee of the Ordinance Department] over “P”. The stock displays sharp inspector’s marks: “JJC” [John J. Callahan] and “W.A.T [William A. Thornton, Brevet Brigadier General, U.S. Army; Chief Inspector Contract Arms]”.

This example remains in extraordinarily fine original condition.
