Cooper made staved tankard with interlocking [split sapling] bands. The shaped handle is all-in-one with a stave and is fastened by the bands. The original blue/gray surface was overpainted red, the bands and handle black, in its early working life. The base has a 1.5″ hole worn through by repeated use of a toddy stick. The earliest tankards were made without lids.
