A few points. We date this bottle 1690-1710. The mouth and string rim are late seventeenth century in design; the shape of the large, bulbous body is also seventeenth century. The neck is a bit longer than seventeenth century bottles, more like the first decade of the eighteenth century.
Item Date: Circa 1700
Measurement: Height: 6.25"
Material: Freeblown glass
Item Condition: Good condition without cracks or star cracks. Approximately 1/3 of the string rim which has been restored with resin. There is surface scratching with one significant scratch on the upper body below the neck. The entry in David Burton's book on Sealed Bottles suggests that there is a large chip to the right side of the seal, however he was only given photos of the bottle – actually, it is a manufacturing defect and not a chip.
Literature: This wonderful armorial sealed bottle is discussed in David Burton's book English Sealed Bottles and the families who owned them (2015), pages 1570-1571. The author makes clear that his observations were made from photographs.
