The bail handle is secured to a domed roof featuring a folded zinc vent; framed case joining pierced bottom to which is affixed the single sheet iron candle socket which is tabbed and nailed to bottom. The quarter-round outside corners of case were fabricated with multiple pieces of molded wood; interior vertical corner framing is shaped similarly to a wooden ships’ crossbeams. We speculate that this may have had a nautical history. Witness marks on the underside of base suggest that it was mounted on a post.
