Matched Set of Six Paint Decorated Thumb-back Windsor Side Chairs

These chairs, plank-seated, half-spindle-backs painted chrome yellow, are trimmed in black and persimmon red; top splats feature conjoined trumpet seashells centering green and yellow foliage and fine scrolling [tendrils].

Measurement: Height: 33.5"; Seat Height: 17"; Width: 16"; Depth: 15.25"

Item Condition: Excellent, trivial wear commensurate with age and use.

Provenance: The chairs were purchased by Elizabeth Remington Trull from furniture maker Edward Fowle at the time of her wedding to John Clark II. The couple married on “Trull Hill” in Tewksbury, Massachusetts – they lived on Clark Road in Lowell. The house and chairs were inherited by their unmarried daughter, Jane E. Clark. Though Jane died without a will in 1935, a note was found that stated the “wedding chairs” were for her grandniece, Eleanor K. Buck who married Richard Wolf in 1939… 100-years after the Trull and Clark wedding; the chairs remained in their home until approximately 2006. Accompanying the chairs is the November 20th, 1839, bill of sale for the subject set of chairs and other furniture. Also, handwritten notes/records of the chairs decent of ownership [by family] and drawings showing splat decoration.
