A Kast Displaying an Outstanding Surface
An outstanding crown molding is above the beautifully proportioned case featuring a quarter-round bead at front outside corners. The pair of blind doors hang from undisturbed butterfly hinges affixed with clinched rosehead nails. The molded base is raised on cutout feet. The color and dry patina are soulful.
Item Date: Mid 18th Century
Measurement: Height: 60.5”, Case: 42" x 13.75", Crown Molding: 48" x 16.5"
Material: Pine
Item Condition: Very good, especially considering age and centuries of use; there is a tight shrinkage fissure at bottom of right proper stile caused by wood-shrinkage-compression against hinge nails that has been stabilized by our restorer [integrity is intact]. It appears that a fillet was added to inner door edge to compensate for shrinkage early in the cupboards working life… even more shrinkage now. Proper right base molding is new.
